  1. After important encounters with God, we should set aside a special time of WORSHIP.

Joshua 8:30-31 - “Then Joshua built on Mount Ebal an altar to the Lord, the God of Israel, as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded the Israelites.”

Genesis 8:20 - “Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and, taking some of all of the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it.”

Genesis 12:7 - “The LORD appeared to Abram and said, ‘To your offspring I will give this land.’ So he built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him.”

Genesis 35:7 - “There (Jacob) built and altar, and he called the place El Bethel, because it was there that God revealed himself to him when he was fleeing from his brother.”

  2. The Lord gives us specific INSTRUCTION as to how to worship Him.

John 4:24 - “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

Hebrews 13:15 - “Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.”

Psalm 29:2 - “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.”

Deuteronomy 27:1-8 - Moses instructs Joshua and the Israelites where and how to build an altar and worship God in the Promised Land.

Exodus 20:25 - God provides specific instructions on building an altar - “You will defile it if you use a tool on it.”

  3. Essential ELEMENTS of WORSHIP involve: praise, sacrifice, offerings, the Word of God, and the presence of the Lord.

Joshua 8:31 - “On it they offered to the Lord burnt offerings and sacrificed fellowship offerings.”

Joshua 8:32 - “There in the presence of the Israelites, Joshua wrote on stones a copy of the law of Moses.”

Joshua 8:33 - “Alll the Israelites, with their elders, officials and judges, were standing on both sides of the ark of the covenant of the Lord, facing the Levitical priests who carried it.”

Joshua 8:34 - “Afterward, Joshua read all the words of the law - the blessings and the curses - just as it is written in the Book of the Law.”
