The Lord Rewards Caleb For His Faithfulness

Joshua 14

November 11, 2018

  1. The Lord always stays true to His WORD.

Joshua 14 - The Lord divides up the land west of the Jordan between the 9 1/2 tribes.

Joshua 14:1 - “Now these are the areas the Israelites received as an inheritance in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun and the heads of the tribal clans of Israel allotted to them.”

Joshua 14:10 - “Now then, just as the Lord promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the wilderness. So here I am today eighty-five years old.”

Joshua 14:11- “I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then.” The Lord gave Caleb the strength in his senior years to fulfill the Lord’s promise.

Joshua 14:12 - “Now give to me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day.”

As with Caleb, sometimes we have to step up and claim what is rightfully ours.

  2. God always rewards us for our FAITHFULNESS.

Joshua 14:7 - “I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea to explore the land. And I brought him back a report according to my convictions, but my fellow Israelites who went up with me made the hearts of the people melt in fear. I, however, followed the Lord my God wholeheartedly.”

Joshua 14:13 - “Then Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave him Hebron as his inheritance.”

Joshua 14:14 - “So Hebron has belonged to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite ever since, because he followed the Lord, the God of Israel, wholeheartedly.”

James 1:12 - “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.”

  3. God’s rewards often relate directly to our INTEGRITY.

Joshua 14:9 - “The land on which you walked will be your inheritance and that of your children forever, because you have followed the Lord, my God, wholeheartedly.'‘

Colossians 3:24-24 - “Whatever you do work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.”

Matthew 25:21 - Parable of the Talents: “His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little, I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’”
