Remember What The Lord Has Done!

Joshua 4:1-13

July 8, 2018

1. The Lord wants us to set up MEMORIALS to remind us of what He has done.

Joshua 4:2-3 - "Choose twelve men from among the people, one from each tribe, and tell them to take up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, from right where the priests are standing, and carry them over with you and put them down at the place where you stay tonight."

Joshua 4:7 - "...These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever."

Exodus 12:14 - Passover and Festival of Unleavened Bread: "This is a day for you to commemorate, for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord - a lasting ordinance."

Luke 22:7-20 - The Last Supper: "...And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them saying, 'This is my body given for you, do this in remembrance of me.'"

2. Remembering what the Lord has done helps us to APPRECIATE Him.

Joshua 4:8 - "So the Israelites did as Joshua commanded them. They took twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan...and they carried them over with them to their camp, where they put them down."

Joshua 4:11 - "and as soon as all of them had crossed, the ark of the Lord and the priests came to the other side while the people watched."

Joshua 4:23-24 - "For the Lord your God dried up the Jordan before you until you had crossed over. The Lord your God did to the Jordan what he had done to the Read Sea when he dried it up before us until we had crossed over. He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the Lord is powerful and so that you might always fear the Lord your God."

Psalm 103:2-4 - "Praise the Lord, O my soul; and forget not all his benefits - who forgives all your sins and heals all of your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion..."

3. Remembering what the Lord has done helps us to build our FAITH.

Joshua 4:10 - "Now the priests who carried the ark remained standing in the middle of the Jordan until everything that the Lord had commanded Joshua was done by the people, just as Moses had directed Joshua."

Psalm 77:11 - "I will remember the deeds of the Lord, yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago." Then the psalmist cried out to the Lord for help.

Joshua 4:12-13 - "The men of Reuben, Gad and the Half tribe of Manasseh crossed over, ready for battle, in front of the Israelites, as Moses had directed them. About forty thousand armed for battle crossed over before the Lord to the plains of Jericho for war."

4. Remembering what the Lord has done helps us to pass on our faith to future GENERATIONS

Joshua 4:6-7 - "In the future, when your children ask you, 'What do these stones mean?' tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord."

Joshua 4:21 - "In the future when your descendants ask their parents, 'What do these stones mean?' tell them Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground."

1 Chronicles 16:8 - "Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done."
