Beyond Reproach!

Joshua 5:9-12

August 12, 2018

1. Whether we realize it or not, there are serious CONSEQUENCES for our sins.

Joshua 5:6 - "The Israelites had moved about in the wilderness forty years until all the men who were of military age when they had left Egypt had died, since they had not obeyed the Lord."

Galatians 6:7-8 - "Do not be deceived; God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whosoever sows to please their flesh, from their flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life."

Romans 6:23 - "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus."

2. God removes the REPROACH from our sins.

Joshua 5:9 - "Then the Lord said to Joshua, 'Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you. So the place has been called Gilgal to this day."

Psalm 119:22 - "Take away reproach and contempt from me for I observe your statutes."

Hebrews 11:26 - "(Moses) considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt."

Romans 15:3 - "For even Christ did not please himself, but as it is written, 'The reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me.'"

Micah 7:19 - "You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea."

Isaiah 1:18 - "...though your sins be as scarlet, they will be as white as snow..."

3. As Christ removes the reproach from our lives, He CIRCUMCISES our hearts and invites us to celebrate the PASSOVER.

Joshua 5:8 - "And after the whole nation had been circumcised they remained where they were in camp until they were healed."

Joshua 5:10 - "On the evening of the fourteenth day of the month, while camped at Gilgal on the plains of Jericho, the Israelites celebrated the Passover." This was the first time in 39 years that the Israelites were allowed to celebrate the Passover. Now that the Israelites were circumcised, they could once again partake in the Passover supper.

4. As Christ redeems us, He gives us supernatural nourishment.

Joshua 5:11 - "The day after the Passover, that very day, they ate some of the produce of the land; unleavened bread and roasted grain."

Joshua 5:12 - "The manna stopped the day after they ate this food from the land; there was no longer any manna for the Israelites, but that year they ate the produce of Canaan."

John 6:32 - "Jesus said to them, 'Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.'"

John 6:35 - "Then Jesus declared, 'I am the Bread of Life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.'"
