Don’t Hold Back

Joshua 7:1-2

September 9, 2018

  1. Going against GOD’S WAYS never works out well!

Joshua 7:1 - “But the Israelites were unfaithful in regard to the devoted things.”

Joshua 7:4 - “So about three thousand went up; but they were routed by the men of Ai, who killed about thirty-six of them. Disobedience to God always results in defeat.”

Acts 5:1-11 - Judgment for Ananias and Sapphira for lying to the Holy Spirit.

1 Peter 4:17 - “For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household…”

  2. Unless and until you address the sin in your life, you will continue to experience REPEATED FAILURE.

Joshua 7:6 - “Then Joshua tore his clothes and fell face-down to the ground before the ark of the Lord, remaining there until evening. The elders of Israel did the same, and sprinkled dust on their heads.”

Joshua 7:13 - “Go consecrate the people. Tell them, ‘Consecrate yourselves in preparation for tomorrow, for this is what the Lord, the God of Israel says": There are devoted things among you, Israel. You cannot stand against your enemies until you remove them.’”

2 Chronicles 7:14 - “Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.

1 John 1:9 - “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

  3. In God’s time He will bring all things into the LIGHT.

Joshua 7:10 - “Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenant…They have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have lied, they have put them with their possessions.”

God knows the truth, so you might as well come clean with Him.

Joshua 7:16-19 - Joshua had thee Israelites come forward by tribes, and then by clans, and then by family. Then Joshua said to Achan, “My son, give glory to the Lord, the God of Israel, and honor him. Tell me what you have done; do not hide it from me.”

Ephesians 5:12-13, 15 - “It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible - and everything that is illuminated becomes a light…Be very careful, then, how you live - not as unwise, but as wise.”

Proverbs 28:13 - “Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.”

  4. Don’t HOLD ONTO anything that the Lord requires for you to turn over to Him.

Joshua 7:20 - Achan replied, “It is true! I have sinned against the Lord, the God of Israel…When I saw in the plunder a beautiful robe from Babylonia, two hundred shekels of silver and a bar of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them.”

Genesis 22:1-9 - God commanded Abraham to sacrifice his only son, Isaac. Abraham obeyed God and turned over Isaac to Him.”

1 John 2:15-17 - “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world - the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions - is not from the Father but is from the world.”

James 4:7 - “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

Hebrews 2:18 - “For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.”
