Thankfulness For The Church
I Thessalonians Chapter 1
March 24th, 2019
1. Paul is extremely THANKFUL for the local CHURCH.
1 Thessalonians 1:2 – “We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers.”
1 Corinthians 1:4 – “I always thank God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 1:3 – “We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.”
1 Thessalonians 1:4 – “For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction.”
2. Paul is thankful for the TESTIMONY of the church.
1 Thessalonians 1:6 – “You became imitators of us and of the Lord, in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with joy given by the Holy Spirit.”
1 Corinthians 11:1 – “Follow my example as I follow the example of Christ.”
Ephesians 5:1-2 – “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children, and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God, as a fragrant aroma.”
1 Thessalonians 1:7 – “And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia.”
3. The testimony of the Church is marked by a remarkable FAITH in God,
a complete change in WORSHIP and BEHAVIOR and an unwavering HOPE in our Savior and His return.
1 Thessalonians 1:8 – “…your faith in God has become known everywhere.”
Acts 4:20 – “For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”
1 Thessalonians 1:9-10 – “…They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead – Jesus who rescues us from the coming wrath.”
2 Corinthians 5:17 – “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away and behold the new has come.”
Titus 2:13-14 – “While we wait for the blessed hope – the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.”
