June 2nd, 2019
Verse of the Week
“Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.”
~ I Thessalonians 5:1
1. No one KNOWS the day or the hour when the Lord will return.
I Thessalonians 5:1-2 – “Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.”
I Thessalonians 5:3 – While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.”
2 Peter 3:10 – “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.”
Matthew 24:36 – “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven or the Son, but only the Father.”
2. But the Day of the Lord should not SURPRISE us.
I Thessalonians 5:4 – “But you brothers and sisters are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief.”
Matthew 24:32-33 – “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree. As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door.”
1 Thessalonians 5:5 – “You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.”
1 Thessalonians 5:6 – “So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep but let us be awake and sober.”
1 Thessalonians 5:8 – “But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.”
3. We are not destined to SUFFER God’s wrath but to receive SALVATION and live forever with him.
I Thessalonians 5:9 – “For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
I Thessalonians 5:10 – “He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.”
I Thessalonians 5:11 – “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
