Heaven – Our True Home!

JULY 28th 2019

Verse of the Week

2 “In my Father’s house are many rooms... 3 I am going there to prepare a place for you... I will come back to take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”

 ~ John 14:2-3

1.    Lord Jesus went to prepare a PLACE for us.

John 14:2-3 – “In my Father’s house are many rooms, if it were not so, I would have told you.  I am going there to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”

Heaven is real – there are over 500 references in Scripture to “heaven.”

2.    Heaven is a true PARADISE.

1 Corinthians 2:9 – “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived – the things that God has prepared for those who love him.”

Revelation 21:1-2 – “Then I saw ‘a new heaven and a new earth’ for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away and there was no longer any sea.  I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.”

Revelation 22:1-5 – Eden is restored.  “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city… There will be no more night.  They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light.  And they will reign for ever and ever.”

3.    We long to be with Christ for we BELONG to Him.

Philippians 1:23 – “…I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far…”

Psalm 73:25 – “Whom have I in heaven but You?  And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.”

Psalm 42:2 – “My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and appear before God?”

4.    We long for HEAVEN since it is our true home.

Hebrews 11:13-16 – “All these people were still living by faith when they died.  They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth… Instead, they were longing for a better country – a heavenly one.  Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.”

Philippians 3:20 – “But our citizenship is in heaven.  And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.”
