Jesus Lays Out the Future

Today’s Verses

Matthew 24:1-44, Luke 21:5-36

 

Verse of the Week 44 “So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”~ Matthew 24:44

 

1. Jesus predicts End Times events.

  • Matthew 24:4-8 – “Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you.  For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.  You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed.  Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.  Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.  There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.  All these are the beginning of birth pains.”

  • Matthew 24:9-14 – “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me.  At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.  Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.  And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”

  • Matthew 24:29 – “Immediately after the distress of those days ‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’”

  • Matthew 24:30-31 – “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven.  And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.  And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.”

 

2. Jesus tells us to be ready since we don’t know the day or the hour.

  • Matthew 24:42-44 – “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.  But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.  So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”

 

3. Jesus gives us the sign of the Fig Tree to let us know the season he will return.

  • Luke 21:29-31 – “He told them this parable: ‘Look at the fig tree and all the trees.  When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near.  Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.’”

  • Luke 21:32-33 – “Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.  Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”

 

4. Be careful so your hearts aren’t weighed down by unholy living.

  • Luke 21:34-35 – “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap.  For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth.”

  • I Peter 5:8-9 – “Be alert and of sober mind.  Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.  Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.”

 

5. Be watchful and pray that you will escape God’s wrath.

  • Luke 21:36 – “Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

44 “Así también vosotros estad preparados, porque el Hijo del Hombre vendrá a la hora que no esperáis.”

~ Mateo 24:44

 

 

1. Jesús predice los eventos del Fin de los Tiempos.

  • Mateo 24:4-8 – “Jesús respondió: “Tengan cuidado de que nadie los engañe.  Porque vendrán muchos en mi nombre, diciendo: ‘Yo soy el Mesías’, y engañarán a muchos.  Oirán de guerras y rumores de guerras, pero cuídense de alarmarse.  Es necesario que estas cosas sucedan, pero el fin aún está por venir.  Se levantará nación contra nación y reino contra reino.  Habrá hambrunas y terremotos en diversos lugares. Todo esto es el principio de dolores de parto.”

  • Mateo 24:9-14 – “Entonces serán entregados para ser perseguidos y condenados a muerte, y serán odiados por todas las naciones por causa de mí.  En ese tiempo muchos se apartarán de la fe, se traicionarán y se odiarán unos a otros, y muchos falsos profetas aparecerán y engañarán a mucha gente. Debido al aumento de la maldad, el amor de la mayoría se enfriará, pero el que persevere hasta el fin será salvo.  Y este evangelio del reino será predicado en todo el mundo para testimonio a todas las naciones; y entonces vendrá el fin.”

  • Mateo 24:29 – “Inmediatamente después de la angustia de aquellos días, el sol se oscurecerá, la luna no dará su resplandor, las estrellas caerán del cielo y los cuerpos celestes serán conmovidos.”

  • Mateo 24:30-31 – “Entonces aparecerá la señal del Hijo del Hombre en el cielo.  Y entonces todos los pueblos de la tierra lamentarán cuando vean al Hijo del Hombre viniendo sobre las nubes del cielo, con poder y gran gloria.  Y enviará a sus ángeles con gran voz de trompeta, y reunirán a sus escogidos de los cuatro vientos, desde un extremo del cielo hasta el otro.”

 

2. Jesús nos dice que estemos preparados, ya que no sabemos el día ni la hora.

  • Mateo 24:42-44 – “Por tanto, estén alerta, porque no saben en qué día vendrá su Señor.  Pero sepan esto: si el dueño de casa hubiera sabido a qué hora de la noche venía el ladrón, habría velado y no habría dejado forzar su casa.  Así también ustedes deben estar preparados, porque el Hijo del Hombre vendrá a la hora que menos esperan.”

 

3. Jesús nos da la señal de la higuera para indicarnos la época de su regreso.

  • Lucas 21:29-31 – “Les contó esta parábola: ‘Miren la higuera y todos los árboles.  Cuando brotan las hojas, ustedes mismos lo ven y saben que el verano está cerca.  Así también, cuando vean que suceden estas cosas, sepan que el reino de Dios está cerca.’”

  • Lucas 21:32-33 – “De cierto les digo que esta generación no pasará hasta que todo esto suceda.  El cielo y la tierra pasarán, pero mis palabras jamás pasarán.”

 

4. Cuídense de que sus corazones no se agobien por una vida impía.

  • Lucas 21:34-35 – “Tengan cuidado, no sea que sus corazones se agobien por la juerga, la embriaguez y las preocupaciones de la vida, y ese día los alcance de repente como una trampa.  Porque vendrá sobre todos los que viven sobre la faz de toda la tierra.”

  • 1 Pedro 5:8-9 – “Estén alerta y sean sobrios.  Su enemigo, el diablo, ronda como león rugiente buscando a quién devorar.  Resístanlo, manteniéndose firmes en la fe, sabiendo que la familia de los creyentes en todo el mundo está sufriendo los mismos sufrimientos.”

 

5. Manténganse alerta y oren para escapar de la ira de Dios.

  • Lucas 21:36 – “Velad siempre y orad para que podáis escapar de todo lo que está por venir, y estar en pie delante del Hijo del Hombre.”
