Joseph – Redemption and Restoration

Verse of the Week

29 “As soon as Joseph appeared before him, he threw his arms around his father and wept for a long time.   30 Israel said to Joseph, “Now I am ready to die, since I have seen for myself that you are still alive.” ~ Genesis 46:29-30


1. Joseph is betrayed by his brothers and sold into slavery.  God spared his life and redeemed him out of the pit.    

  • Genesis 37:12-36

 

2. He is purchased by Potiphar the Captain of the Guard for Pharoah.  Joseph is rewarded by Potiphar who puts Joseph in charge of his household.

  • Genesis 39:1-6

  • Genesis 39:4 – “Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned.”

 

3. Joseph is falsely accused by Potiphar’s wife and imprisoned.  Then the warden puts Joseph in charge of the prison since he is extremely reliable.

  • Genesis 39:6-23

  • Genesis 39:21 – “The Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.”

 

4. Joseph is released from prison so that he can interpret Pharoah’s dream.  Then Pharoah puts Joseph in charge of all of Egypt.  God used the anointing of Joseph as the key to his redemption.  God allowed Joseph to suffer for 13 years before he redeemed him and elevated him to the highest position in the kingdom. 

  • Genesis 41:14-44

  • Genesis 41:16 – “I cannot do it,” Joseph replied to Pharaoh, “but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires.”

 

5. Joseph’s brothers come to Egypt for food since there was a famine in Canaan.  Joseph’s brothers bow down to Joseph without recognizing who he is.  This fulfilled Joseph’s dream from his youth.  Finally, Joseph reveals himself to his brothers.  The Lord restores his relationship with his brothers.

  • Genesis Chapters 42-45

  • Genesis 42:5-8 – “So when Joseph's brothers arrived, they bowed down to him with their faces to the ground.  As soon as Joseph saw his brothers, he recognized them, but he pretended to be a stranger…”

 

6. Jacob  comes to Egypt and Joseph goes to meet with him.  God restored their relationship and brought great joy to both father and son.

  • Genesis Chapter 46

  • Genesis 46:29-30 – “As soon as Joseph appeared before him, he threw his arms around his father and wept for a long time.  Israel said to Joseph, “Now I am ready to die, since I have seen for myself that you are still alive.”

 

7. The Lord fulfilled his promises to Joseph and positioned him to save his family and the lives of many others.

  • Genesis 45:5-7 – “And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you.  For two years now there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years there will be no plowing and reaping.  But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.”

  • Psalm 105:17-21 – “And he sent a man before them-Joseph, sold as a slave.  They bruised his feet with shackles, his neck was put in irons, till what he foretold came to pass, till the word of the Lord proved him true.  The king sent and released him, the ruler of peoples set him free.  He made him master of his household, ruler over all he possessed, to instruct his princes as he pleased and teach his elders wisdom.”

  • Acts 7:9-15 – “Because the patriarchs were jealous of Joseph, they sold him as a slave into Egypt.  But God was with him and rescued him from all his troubles.  He gave Joseph wisdom and enabled him to gain the goodwill of Pharaoh king of Egypt.  So Pharaoh made him ruler over Egypt and all his palace.  Then a famine struck all Egypt and Canaan, bringing great suffering, and our ancestors could not find food.  When Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent our forefathers on their first visit.  On their second visit, Joseph told his brothers who he was, and Pharaoh learned about Joseph’s family.  After this, Joseph sent for his father Jacob and his whole family, seventy-five in all.  Then Jacob went down to Egypt, where he and our ancestors died.”

29 “Tan pronto como José apareció ante él, abrazó a su padre y lloró mucho tiempo.

30 Israel dijo a José: “Ahora estoy dispuesto a morir, ya que he visto con mis propios ojos que aún estás vivo.”

~ Génesis 46:29-30

 

1. José es traicionado por sus hermanos y vendido como esclavo.  Dios le perdonó la vida y lo redimió del abismo.   

  • Génesis 37:12-36

 

2. Potifar, el capitán de la guardia, lo compra para el faraón.  José es recompensado por Potifar, quien lo pone a cargo de su casa.

  • Génesis 39:1-6

  • Génesis 39:4 – “José halló gracia ante sus ojos y fue su servidor.  Potifar lo puso a cargo de su casa y le confió todo lo que poseía.”

 

3. José es acusado falsamente por la esposa de Potifar y encarcelado.  Luego, el director pone a Joseph a cargo de la prisión, ya que es extremadamente confiable.

  • Génesis 39:6-23

  • Génesis 39:21 – “El Señor estaba con él; le mostró bondad y le concedió favor ante los ojos del director de la prisión.”

 

4. José sale de prisión para que pueda interpretar el sueño del Faraón.  Entonces el Faraón pone a José a cargo de todo Egipto. Dios usó la unción de José como clave para su redención.  Dios permitió que José sufriera durante 13 años antes de redimirlo y elevarlo a la posición más alta en el reino.

  • Génesis 41:14-44

  • Génesis 41:16 – “No puedo hacerlo”, respondió José a Faraón, “pero Dios le dará a Faraón la respuesta que desea.”

 

5. Los hermanos de José vienen a Egipto en busca de comida ya que había hambre en Canaán.  Los hermanos de José se inclinan ante José sin reconocer quién es.  Esto cumplió el sueño de José desde su juventud.  Finalmente, José se revela a sus hermanos.  El Señor restablece su relación con sus hermanos.

  • Génesis Capítulos 42-45

  • Génesis 42:5-8 – “Cuando llegaron los hermanos de José, se postraron ante él rostro en tierra.  José, en cuanto vio a sus hermanos, los reconoció, pero se hizo pasar por un extraño…”

 

6. Jacob llega a Egipto y José va a encontrarse con él.  Dios restauró su relación y trajo gran alegría tanto al padre como al hijo.

  • Génesis Capítulo 46

  • Génesis 46:29-30 – “Tan pronto como José apareció ante él, abrazó a su padre y lloró mucho tiempo.  Israel dijo a José: “Ahora estoy dispuesto a morir, ya que he visto con mis propios ojos que aún estás vivo.”

 

7. El Señor cumplió sus promesas a José y lo posicionó para salvar a su familia y las vidas de muchos otros.

  • Génesis 45:5-7 – “Ahora pues, no os angustiéis ni os enojéis por venderme aquí, porque para salvar vidas me envió Dios delante de vosotros.  Desde hace dos años hay hambre en la tierra, y durante los próximos cinco años no habrá arado ni cosecha.  Pero Dios me envió delante de vosotros para preservaros un remanente en la tierra y salvar vuestras vidas mediante una gran liberación.”

  • Salmo 105:17-21 – “Y envió delante de ellos a un hombre, José, vendido como esclavo.  Le magullaron los pies con grillos, le pusieron grilletes en el cuello, hasta que se cumplió lo que había predicho, hasta que la palabra del Señor demostró que era verdad.  El rey envió y lo puso en libertad, el gobernante de los pueblos lo puso en libertad.  Lo hizo dueño de su casa, gobernante de todo lo que poseía, para instruir a sus príncipes como quisiera y enseñar sabiduría a sus mayores.”

  • Hechos 7:9-15 – “Porque los patriarcas tenían envidia de José, lo vendieron como esclavo a Egipto.  Pero Dios estuvo con él y lo rescató de todos sus problemas.  Le dio sabiduría a José y le permitió ganarse la buena voluntad del faraón rey de Egipto. Entonces Faraón lo nombró gobernante de Egipto y de todo su palacio.  Entonces una hambruna azotó a todo Egipto y Canaán, causando gran sufrimiento, y nuestros antepasados ​​no podían encontrar alimento.  Cuando Jacob se enteró de que había grano en Egipto, envió a nuestros antepasados ​​a su primera visita.  En su segunda visita, José les dijo a sus hermanos quién era y Faraón se enteró de la familia de José.  Después de esto, José envió a buscar a su padre Jacob y a toda su familia, setenta y cinco en total.  Entonces Jacob descendió a Egipto, donde murió él y nuestros antepasados.”
