Living Life in the Power of the Holy Spirit

  • Who is the Holy Spirit?

1. The Holy Spirit is a person of the trinity.  

  • Genesis 1:2 – “ 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”

  • Genesis 1:26 – “ 26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

2. The Holy Spirit is a promise of the father.

  • Luke 24:49 – “ 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

3. The Holy Spirit is a gift for every living person who is born again through faith in Jesus Christ.

  • Acts 2:37-38 – “ 37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”  38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

        4. The Holy Spirit equips us to do his work in the kingdom of God with supernatural power.

  • Hebrews 13:20-21 - 20 Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, 21 equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever.  Amen.”

  • John 14:15-18 - 15 “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever — 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.”


  • John 16:7-15 – 7 But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away.  Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.  8 When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 about sin, because people do not believe in me; 10 about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11 and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.  12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear.  13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.  14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you.  15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”

 

  • Galatians 5:16-25 - 16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.  17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh.  They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.  18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.  19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.  22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.  25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

Viviendo en el poder del Espíritu Santo

  • ¿Quién es el Espíritu Santo?

 

1. El Espíritu Santo es una persona de la Trinidad.

  • Génesis 1:2 – “Y la tierra estaba desordenada y vacía, las tinieblas cubrían la faz del abismo, y el Espíritu de Dios se movía sobre las aguas.”

  • Génesis 1:26 – “Entonces dijo Dios: Hagamos al ser humano a nuestra imagen, conforme a nuestra semejanza; y tenga dominio sobre los peces del mar, sobre las aves del cielo, sobre los animales domésticos, sobre toda la tierra y sobre todo reptil que se arrastra sobre la tierra.”

2. El Espíritu Santo es una promesa del Padre.

  • Lucas 24:49 – “Les enviaré lo que mi Padre ha prometido; pero quédense en la ciudad hasta que sean revestidos de poder desde lo alto.”

3. El Espíritu Santo es un don para toda persona que nace de nuevo por la fe en Jesucristo.

  • Hechos 2:37-38 – “Al oír esto, la gente se conmovió profundamente y dijo a Pedro y a los demás apóstoles: Hermanos, ¿qué haremos?  Pedro respondió: Arrepiéntanse y bautícese cada uno de ustedes en el nombre de Jesucristo para perdón de sus pecados; y recibirán el don del Espíritu Santo.

4. El Espíritu Santo nos capacita para realizar su obra en el reino de Dios con poder sobrenatural.

  • Hebreos 13:20-21 - Y el Dios de paz, que por la sangre del pacto eterno resucitó de entre los muertos a nuestro Señor Jesucristo, el gran pastor de las ovejas, os haga aptos en toda obra buena para hacer su voluntad, y obre en nosotros lo que le agrada, por Jesucristo, a quien sea la gloria por los siglos de los siglos.  Amén.

  • Juan 14:15-18 – “Si me amáis, guardad mis mandamientos. Y yo rogaré al Padre, y él os dará otro Consolador para que os ayude y esté con vosotros para siempre: el Espíritu de verdad.  El mundo no puede aceptarlo, porque no lo ve ni lo conoce. Pero vosotros lo conocéis, porque vive con vosotros y estará en vosotros. No os dejaré huérfanos; vendré a vosotros.”


  •  Juan 16:7-15 – Pero les aseguro que les conviene que me vaya.  Si no me voy, el Consolador no vendrá a ustedes; pero si me voy, se lo enviaré.  Cuando él venga, convencerá al mundo de pecado, de justicia y de juicio: de pecado, porque la gente no cree en mí; de justicia, porque voy al Padre, donde ya no me verán; y de juicio, porque el príncipe de este mundo ya ha sido condenado.  Tengo mucho más que decirles, más de lo que ahora pueden soportar.  Pero cuando él, el Espíritu de verdad, venga, los guiará a toda la verdad. No hablará por su propia cuenta; solo hablará lo que oiga, y les anunciará lo que está por venir.  Él me glorificará porque de mí recibirá lo que les hará saber.  Todo lo que pertenece al Padre es mío. Por eso dije que el Espíritu recibirá de mí lo que les hará saber.”


  • Gálatas 5:16-25 - Digo, pues: Andad según el Espíritu, y no satisfagáis los deseos de la carne.  Porque la carne desea lo que es contrario al Espíritu, y el Espíritu lo que es contrario a la carne. Están en conflicto entre sí, de modo que no debéis hacer lo que[a] queráis.  Pero si sois guiados por el Espíritu, no estáis bajo la ley. Las obras de la carne son evidentes: inmoralidad sexual, impureza y libertinaje; idolatría y brujería; odio, discordia, celos, arrebatos de ira, ambición egoísta, disensiones, facciones y envidia; borracheras, orgías y cosas semejantes. Os advierto, como ya lo hice antes, que los que viven así no heredarán el reino de Dios. Pero el fruto del Espíritu es amor, gozo, paz, paciencia, benignidad, bondad, fidelidad, mansedumbre y dominio propio. Contra tales cosas no hay ley.  Los que pertenecen a Cristo Jesús han crucificado la carne con sus pasiones y deseos.  Ya que vivimos por el Espíritu, andemos con el Espíritu.”
