~ Matthew 16:15-16
1. Peter – called to be a Fisher of Men.
Matthew 4:18-20 – Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee. He saw two brothers. They were Simon (his other name was Peter) and Andrew, his brother. They were putting a net into the sea for they were fishermen. Jesus, said to them, ‘Follow Me. I will make you fish for men!” At once they left their nets and followed him.
2. Peter declares that Jesus is the Messiah.
Matthew 16:13-16 – “When Jesus came to the region of Caeserea Philippi, he asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am ?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God.”
Matthew 16:17 – “Jesus replied, ‘Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.’”
I Corinthians 10:4 – “They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.”
Psalm 18:2 – “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
I Peter 2:6 – “For in Scripture it says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”
Ephesians 2:20 – “--- Built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.”
3. Peter tries to stop Christ from going to the cross.
Matthew 16:21-23 – “From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.”
Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!” Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”

Salmo 18:2, 1 Pedro 2:6, Efesios 2:20, Mateo 16:21-23
