Matthew 26:69-75, John 21:15-19, Acts 2:14-41, and Acts 4:1-12
Verse of the Week 17 “The third time he said to him, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me?’ Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, ‘Do you love me?’ He said, ‘Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.’ Jesus said, ‘Feed my sheep!’” ~ John 21:17
1. Peter denies Jesus three times exactly as Christ had predicted.
Matthew 26:69-75 – “Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him. “You also were with Jesus of Galilee,” she said. But he denied it before them all. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said. Then he went out to the gateway, where another servant girl saw him and said to the people there, “This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth.” He denied it again, with an oath: “I don’t know the man!” After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, “Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away.” Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know the man!” Immediately a rooster crowed.”
2. Jesus restores Peter three times and commissions him to feed his sheep.
John 21:15-17 – When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these? “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you. Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep. The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.”
3. Peter preaches boldly at Pentecost and 3,000 are baptized.
Acts 2:14 – “Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: ‘Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say…’”
Acts 2:22-24 – “Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.”
Acts 2:36-38 – “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
4. Peter boldly professes his faith and gives glory to Jesus.
Acts 4:1-4 – “The priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to Peter and John while they were speaking to the people. They were greatly disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people, proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead. They seized Peter and John and, because it was evening, they put them in jail until the next day. But many who heard the message believed; so the number of men who believed grew to about five thousand.”
Acts 4:8-12 – “Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. Jesus is ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

1. Pedro niega a Jesús tres veces, tal como Cristo lo había predicho.
Mateo 26:69-75 – “Pedro estaba sentado afuera en el patio, y una criada se le acercó. Tú también estabas con Jesús el Galileo, le dijo. Pero él lo negó delante de todos. No sé de qué hablas, dijo. Luego salió a la puerta, donde otra criada lo vio y dijo a la gente: Este hombre estaba con Jesús el Nazareno. Negó de nuevo, con juramento: ¡No conozco a ese hombre! Al poco rato, los que estaban allí se acercaron a Pedro y le dijeron: Seguro que eres uno de ellos; tu acento te delata. Entonces comenzó a proferir maldiciones, y les juró: ¡No conozco a ese hombre! Enseguida cantó un gallo.
2. Jesús restaura a Pedro tres veces y le encarga que apaciente a sus ovejas.
Juan 21:15-17 – Cuando terminaron de comer, Jesús le dijo a Simón Pedro: Simón, hijo de Juan, ¿me amas más que estos? Sí, Señor, respondió, tú sabes que te amo.
Jesús le dijo: Apacienta mis corderos. Jesús le volvió a preguntar: Simón, hijo de Juan, ¿me amas? Él respondió: Sí, Señor, tú sabes que te amo. Jesús le dijo: Cuida de mis ovejas. La tercera vez le preguntó: Simón, hijo de Juan, ¿me amas? Pedro se sintió dolido porque Jesús le preguntó por tercera vez: ¿Me amas? Él respondió: Señor, tú lo sabes todo; tú sabes que te amo. Jesús le dijo: Apacienta mis ovejas.
3. Pedro predica con valentía en Pentecostés y 3000 son bautizados.
Hechos 2:14 – “Entonces Pedro se puso de pie con los Once, alzó la voz y se dirigió a la multitud: ‘Judíos y habitantes todos de Jerusalén, les explicaré esto; escuchen atentamente lo que les digo…’”
Hechos 2:22-24 – “Israelitas, escuchen esto: Jesús de Nazaret fue un hombre acreditado por Dios ante ustedes con milagros, prodigios y señales que Dios realizó entre ustedes por medio de él, como ustedes mismos saben. Este hombre fue entregado a ustedes por el plan deliberado y el previo conocimiento de Dios; y ustedes, con la ayuda de hombres inicuos, lo mataron clavándolo en la cruz. Pero Dios lo resucitó de entre los muertos, librándolo de la agonía de la muerte, porque era imposible que la muerte lo retuviera.”
Hechos 2:36-38 – “Por tanto, tenga la certeza de esto todo Israel: a este Jesús, a quien ustedes crucificaron, Dios le ha hecho Señor y Mesías.” Al oír esto, el pueblo se conmovió profundamente y preguntó a Pedro y a los demás apóstoles: “Hermanos, ¿qué haremos?” Pedro respondió: “Arrepiéntanse y bautícese cada uno de ustedes en el nombre de Jesucristo para perdón de sus pecados. Y recibirán el don del Espíritu Santo.”
4. Pedro profesa con valentía su fe y glorifica a Jesús.
Hechos 4:1-4 – “Los sacerdotes, el capitán de la guardia del templo y los saduceos se acercaron a Pedro y a Juan mientras hablaban al pueblo. Estaban muy perturbados porque los apóstoles enseñaban al pueblo, proclamando en Jesús la resurrección de los muertos. Prendieron a Pedro y a Juan y, como era de noche, los pusieron en la cárcel hasta el día siguiente. Pero muchos de los que oyeron el mensaje creyeron; así que el número de los que creyeron llegó a unos cinco mil.”
Hechos 4:8-12 – “Entonces Pedro, lleno del Espíritu Santo, les dijo: “¡Gobernantes y ancianos del pueblo! Si hoy se nos pide cuentas por un acto de bondad con un hombre cojo y se nos pregunta cómo fue sanado, entonces sepan esto, ustedes y todo el pueblo de Israel: Es por el nombre de Jesucristo de Nazaret, a quien ustedes crucificaron, pero a quien Dios resucitó de entre los muertos, que este hombre está ante ustedes sanado. Jesús es «la piedra que ustedes, los constructores, desecharon, y que se ha convertido en la piedra angular. La salvación no se encuentra en ningún otro, porque no hay otro nombre bajo el cielo, dado a los hombres, por el cual podamos ser salvos.”
