Verse of the Week
10 “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.”
~ 2 Peter 3:10
1. The Apostle Peter reminds Jesus’ disciples to follow the teachings of the prophets and the apostles.
2 Peter 3:1 – “Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking.”
2 Peter 3:2 – “I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles.”
2. In the last days, scoffers will deny the second coming of Christ and follow their own desires.
2 Peter 3:3 – “Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own desires.”
Jude 18 – “They said to you, ‘In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.’”
2 Peter 3:4 – “They will say, ‘Where is the coming he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”
2 Peter 3:5 – “But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water.”
3. The Earth was destroyed in the past by water but will be destroyed in the future by fire.
2 Peter 3:6-7 – “By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.”
Malachi 4:1 – “‘Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and the day that is coming will set them on fire,’ says the Lord Almighty…”
4. The Lord’s timing is not our timing.
2 Peter 3:8 – “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.”
Psalm 90:4 – “A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.”
2 Peter 3:9 – “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
5. The Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
2 Peter 3:10 – “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.”
Revelation 16:15 – “Behold, I am coming like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake, keeping his garments on, that he may not go about naked and be seen exposed.”

10 “Pero el día del Señor vendrá como un ladrón. En aquel día los cielos desaparecerán
con un estruendo espantoso, los elementos serán destruidos por el fuego; y la tierra, con todo lo que hay en ella, será quemada.”
~ 2 Pedro 3:10
1. El apóstol Pedro le recuerda a los discípulos de Jesús que deben seguir las enseñanzas de los profetas y apóstoles.
2 Pedro 3:1 – “Queridos hermanos, esta es ya la segunda carta que les escribo. En las dos he procurado refrescarles la memoria para que, con una mente íntegra.”
2 Pedro 3:2 – “Recuerden las palabras que los santos profetas pronunciaron en el pasado, y el mandamiento que dio nuestro Señor y Salvador por medio de los apóstoles.”
2. En los ultimos días, burlones negarán la segunda venida de Cristo y seguirán sus propios deseos.
2 Pedro 3:3 – “Ante todo, deben saber que en los últimos días vendrá gente burlona que, siguiendo sus malos deseos, se mofará.”
Judas 18 – “Ellos decían: ‘En los últimos tiempos habrá burladores que vivirán según sus propias pasiones impías.’”
2 Pedro 3:4 – “Y dirá: ¿Qué hubo de esa promesa de su venida? Nuestros antepasados murieron[ y nada ha cambiado desde el principio de la creación.”
2 Pedro 3:5 – “Pero intencionalmente olvidan que desde tiempos antiguos, por la palabra de Dios, existía el cielo y también la tierra, que surgió del agua y mediante el agua.”
3. La tierra fue destruída en el pasado con agua pero en el futuro sera destruída con fuego.
2 Pedro 3:6-7 – “Por la palabra y el agua, el mundo de aquel entonces pereció inundado. Y ahora, por esa misma palabra, el cielo y la tierra están guardados para el fuego, reservados para el día del juicio y de la destrucción de los impíos.”
Malaquías 4:1 – “‘Miren, ya viene el día, ardiente como un horno. Todos los soberbios y todos los malvados serán como paja; ese día les prenderá fuego hasta dejarlos sin raíz ni rama —dice el Señor de los Ejércitos…”
4. El tiempo del Señor no es nuestro tiempo.
2 Pedro 3:8 – “Pero no olviden, queridos hermanos, que para el Señor un día es como mil años y mil años, como un día.”
Salmos 90:4 – “Mil años, para ti, son como el día de ayer, que ya pasó.”
2 Pedro 3:9 – “El Señor no tarda en cumplir su promesa, según entienden algunos la tardanza. Más bien, él tiene paciencia con ustedes, porque no quiere que nadie perezca, sino que todos se arrepientan.”
5. El Día del Señor vendrá como ladrón en la noche.
2 Pedro 3:10 – “Pero el día del Señor vendrá como un ladrón. En aquel día los cielos desaparecerán con un estruendo espantoso, los elementos serán destruidos por el fuego; y la tierra, con todo lo que hay en ella, será quemada.”
Apocalipsis 16:15 – “¡Cuidado! ¡Vengo como un ladrón! Dichoso el que se mantenga despierto, con su ropa a la mano, no sea que ande desnudo y sufra vergüenza por su desnudez.”
