The Day Of The Lord

Verse of the Week 32 “And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved, for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, there will be deliverance…” ~ Joel 2:32


1. Prophecies of the Second Coming of Christ.

  • Old Testament – 109 prophecies about the advent of Christ and 224 prophecies about his return.

  • New Testament – 23 of 27 books refer to the Second Coming.

  • Jesus refers to his return 21 times in the gospel accounts.

 

2. When will it take place?

  • I Thessalonians 5:1-2 – “Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.”

  • 2 Peter 3:10 – “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief.  The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.”

 

3. Where will it occur?

  • Acts 1:11 – “Men of Galilee,” they said, “Why do you stand here looking into the sky?  This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

  • Zechariah 14:4 – “On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south.”

 

4. Who will see Jesus at his Second Coming?

  • Matthew 24:27 – “For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.”

  • Revelation 1:7 – “Look, he is coming with the clouds, and “every eye will see him, even those who pierced him”, and all peoples on earth “will mourn because of him.”  So shall it be!  Amen.

 

5. What will be ushered in at the Second Coming?

  • Jude 1:14-15 – “Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones to judge everyone, and to convict all of them of all the ungodly acts they have committed in their ungodliness, and of all the defiant words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”

  • Joel 2:28-32 – “The Day of the Lord, “And afterward I will pour out my Spirit on all people.  Your sons and daughters will prophesy,  your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.  Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.  I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke.  The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.  And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the Lord has said, even among the survivors  whom the Lord calls.”

 

6. New Heaven and a New Earth.

  • 2 Peter 3:13 – “But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.”

  • Revelation 21:1-5 – “Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.  I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.  And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them.  They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.  He will wipe every tear from their eyes.  There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.  He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!”  Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

1. Profecías de la Segunda Venida de Cristo.

  • Antiguo Testamento – 109 profecías sobre el advenimiento de Cristo y 224 profecías sobre su regreso.

  • Nuevo Testamento – 23 de los 27 libros hacen referencia a la Segunda Venida.

  • Jesús menciona su regreso 21 veces en los evangelios.

 

2. ¿Cuándo ocurrirá?

  • 1 Tesalonicenses 5:1-2 – “Ahora bien, hermanos, acerca de los tiempos y las fechas no tenemos necesidad de escribirles, porque ustedes saben muy bien que el día del Señor vendrá como ladrón en la noche.”

  • 2 Pedro 3:10 – “Pero el día del Señor vendrá como ladrón.  Los cielos desaparecerán con un rugido, los elementos serán destruidos por el fuego, y la tierra y todo lo que hay en ella quedará al descubierto.”

 

3. ¿Dónde ocurrirá?

  • Hechos 1:11 – “Hombres galileos, les dijeron, ¿Por qué están aquí mirando al cielo?  Este mismo Jesús, que ha sido tomado de ustedes al cielo, regresará de la misma manera que lo han visto ir al cielo.”

  • Zacarías 14:4 – “En aquel día, sus pies se posarán sobre el Monte de los Olivos, al este de Jerusalén, y el Monte de los Olivos se partirá en dos, de este a oeste, formando un gran valle; la mitad del monte se moverá hacia el norte y la otra mitad hacia el sur.”

 

4. ¿Quiénes verán a Jesús en su Segunda Venida?

  • Mateo 24:27 – “Porque como el relámpago que sale del oriente se ve hasta el occidente, así será la venida del Hijo del Hombre.”

  • Apocalipsis 1:7 – “Miren, viene con las nubes, y todo ojo lo verá, incluso los que lo traspasaron, y todos los pueblos de la tierra harán lamentación por él». ¡Así será! Amén.”

 

5. ¿Qué se anunciará en la Segunda Venida?

  • Judas 1:14-15 – “Enoc, el séptimo desde Adán, profetizó acerca de ellos: “Miren, el Señor viene con millares y millares de sus santos para juzgar a todos y dejarlos convictos de todas las obras impías que han cometido en su impiedad, y de todas las palabras desafiantes que los pecadores impíos han pronunciado contra él.”

  • Joel 2:28-32 – “El Día del Señor: “Y después derramaré mi Espíritu sobre todo el pueblo.  Sus hijos e hijas profetizarán, sus ancianos soñarán sueños, sus jóvenes verán visiones. Incluso sobre mis siervos, tanto hombres como mujeres, derramaré mi Espíritu en aquellos días. Mostraré prodigios en el cielo y en la tierra: sangre, fuego y columnas de humo.  El sol se convertirá en tinieblas y la luna en sangre antes de la venida del día grande y terrible del Señor.  Y todo el que invoque el nombre del Señor será salvo; porque en el monte Sión y en Jerusalén habrá liberación, como el Señor ha dicho, incluso entre los sobrevivientes a quienes el Señor llama.”

 

6. Un Cielo Nuevo y una Tierra Nueva.

  • 2 Pedro 3:13 – “Pero según su promesa, esperamos un cielo nuevo y una tierra nueva, donde mora la justicia.”

  • Apocalipsis 21:1-5 – “Entonces vi un cielo nuevo y una tierra nueva, porque el primer cielo y la primera tierra habían pasado, y el mar ya no existía. Vi la Ciudad Santa, la nueva Jerusalén, que descendía del cielo, de Dios, preparada como una novia ataviada para su esposo.  Y oí una gran voz desde el trono que decía: “¡Miren!  La morada de Dios está ahora entre el pueblo, y él morará con ellos. Ellos serán su pueblo, y Dios mismo estará con ellos y será su Dios.  Él enjugará toda lágrima de sus ojos.  Ya no habrá muerte, ni llanto, ni clamor, ni dolor, porque las primeras cosas han pasado. El que estaba sentado en el trono dijo: “¡Yo hago nuevas todas las cosas!”  “Luego dijo: Escribe esto, porque estas palabras son fieles y verdaderas.”
