The Gift of Affliction

Today’s Verses “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all.”

~ Psalm 34:19

“It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn Your statues.”

~ Psalm 119:71

We should not be surprised when affliction arrives.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all. Psalm 34:19
Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. 1 Peter 4:12-13

Our response to affliction is everything.

Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved. Psalm 55:22
For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13/Joel 2:32

Affliction brings us into communion with Christ and makes eternity more attractive.

That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead. Philippians 3:10-11
For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body. Romans 8:22-23
For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven. 2 Corinthians 5:1-2

Affliction results in proven character.

It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn Your statutes. Psalm 119:71
And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Romans 5:3-4

David, Jesus & Paul petitioned in prayer three times to avoid it.

As for me, I will call upon God, and the Lord shall save me. Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice. Psalm 55:16-17
He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Matthew 26:39, 42, 44
Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:8-10

Be thankful in affliction.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28
In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

El Don de la Aflicción

“Muchas son las aflicciones del justo, pero de todas ellas lo librará el Señor.”

“Bueno me es haber sido afligido, para que aprenda tus estatutos.”

~ Salmo 119:71

No debemos sorprendernos cuando llega la aflicción.

Muchas son las aflicciones del justo, pero de todas ellas lo libra el Señor. Salmo 34:19
Amados, no os extrañéis del fuego de prueba que os ha sobrevenido, como si os aconteciera algo extraño; antes bien, regocijaos por ser participantes de los sufrimientos de Cristo, para que cuando se revele su gloria, también os gocéis con gran alegría. 1 Pedro 4:12-13

Nuestra respuesta a la aflicción lo es todo.

Encomienda tu carga al Señor, y él te sustentará; jamás permitirá que el justo sea conmovido. Salmo 55:22
Porque todo aquel que invoque el nombre del Señor será salvo. Romanos 10:13/Joel 2:32

La aflicción nos lleva a la comunión con Cristo y hace más atractiva la eternidad.

Para conocerle a él, el poder de su resurrección y la participación en sus padecimientos, llegando a ser semejante a él en su muerte, si en alguna manera logro alcanzar la resurrección de entre los muertos. Filipenses 3:10-11Porque sabemos que toda la creación gime a una y sufre dolores de parto hasta ahora. Y no solo ella, sino que también nosotros, que tenemos las primicias del Espíritu, nosotros también gemimos en nuestro interior, esperando la adopción, la redención de nuestro cuerpo. Romanos 8:22-23
Porque sabemos que si nuestra morada terrenal, esta tienda, se deshace, tenemos de Dios un edificio, una casa no hecha de manos, eterna, en los cielos. Por esto gemimos, deseando ardientemente ser revestidos de nuestra morada celestial. 2 Corintios 5:1-2

La aflicción produce un carácter probado.

Bueno es para mí haber sido afligido, para que aprenda tus estatutos. Salmo 119:71
Y no solo eso, sino que también nos gloriamos en las tribulaciones, sabiendo que la tribulación produce perseverancia; y la perseverancia, carácter; y el carácter, esperanza. Romanos 5:3-4

David, Jesús y Pablo oraron tres veces para evitarla.

En cuanto a mí, invocaré a Dios, y el Señor me salvará. Tarde, mañana y mediodía oraré y clamaré, y él oirá mi voz. Salmo 55:16-17
Yendo un poco más adelante, se postró sobre su rostro y oró diciendo: Padre mío, si es posible, pase de mí esta copa; pero no sea como yo quiero, sino como tú. Mateo 26:39, 42, 44
Respecto a esto, tres veces rogué al Señor que lo apartara de mí. Y él me dijo: Te basta mi gracia, pues mi poder se perfecciona en la debilidad». Por lo tanto, de buena gana me gloriaré más bien en mis debilidades, para que el poder de Cristo more en mí. Por eso, por amor a Cristo, me complazco en las debilidades, en los oprobios, en las necesidades, en las persecuciones y en las angustias. Porque cuando soy débil, entonces soy fuerte. 2 Corintios 12:8-10

Sean agradecidos en la aflicción.

Y sabemos que a los que aman a Dios, todas las cosas les ayudan a bien, esto es, a los que conforme a su propósito son llamados. Romanos 8:28
Dad gracias en todo, porque esta es la voluntad de Dios para vosotros en Cristo Jesús. 1 Tesalonicenses 5:18
