Verse of the Week
7 “The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”
~ Romans 8:7
1. The Spirit gives life and sets us free from the law of sin and death.
Romans 8:1-2 – “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”
John 3:18 – “Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”
John 5:24 – “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.”
2. Christ came to offer himself as the perfect sin offering so that we could live according to the Spirit.
Romans 8:3-4 – “For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”
Romans 10:4 – “Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.”
3. Living according to the flesh is opposite from living after the Spirit.
Romans 8:5 – “Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.”
Romans 8:6 – “The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”
Galatians 5:16-18 – “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.”
4. Living out of our flesh is not pleasing to God.
Romans 8:7-8 – “The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.”
Galatians 5:19-21 – “The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

~ Romanos 8:7
1. El Espíritu da vida y nos libera de la ley del pecado y de la muerte.
Romanos 8:1-2 – “Por lo tanto, ya no hay ninguna condenación para los que están en Cristo Jesús, pues por medio de él la ley del Espíritu de vida te ha liberado de la ley del pecado y de la muerte.”
Juan 3:18 – “El que cree en él no es condenado, pero el que no cree ya está condenado por no haber creído en el nombre del Hijo único de Dios.”
Juan 5:24 – “En verdad os digo que el que oye mi palabra y cree al que me envió, tiene vida eterna y no será juzgado, sino que ha pasado de la muerte a la vida."
2. Cristo vino a ofrecerse a sí mismo como la ofrenda perfecta por el pecado para que podamos vivir según el Espíritu.
Romanos 8:3-4 – “En efecto, la Ley no pudo liberarnos porque la carne anuló su poder; por eso Dios envió a su propio Hijo en una condición semejante a la de los pecadores, para que se ofreciera en sacrificio por el pecado. Así condenó Dios al pecado en la carne, a fin de que la justa demanda de la Ley se cumpliera en nosotros, que no vivimos según la carne, sino según el Espíritu."
Romanos 10:4 – “De hecho, Cristo es la culminación de la Ley para que todo el que cree sea justificado."
3. Vivir según la carne es lo opuesto a vivir según el Espíritu.
Romanos 8:5 – “Los que viven conforme a la carne fijan la mente en los deseos de la carne; en cambio, los que viven conforme al Espíritu fijan la mente en los deseos del Espíritu."
Romanos 8:6 – “La mente gobernada por la carne es muerte, mientras que la mente que proviene del Espíritu es vida y paz."
Gálatas 5:16-18 – “Así que les digo: vivan por el Espíritu y no sigan los deseos de la carne; porque esta desea lo que es contrario al Espíritu y a su vez el Espíritu desea lo que es contrario a ella. Los dos se oponen entre sí, de modo que ustedes no pueden hacer lo que quieren. Pero si los guía el Espíritu, no están bajo la Ley.”
4. Vivir de nuestra carne no agrada a Dios.
Romanos 8:7-8 – “La mente gobernada por la carne es enemiga de Dios, pues no se somete a la Ley de Dios ni es capaz de hacerlo. Los que viven según la carne no pueden agradar a Dios."
Gálatas 5:19-21 – “Las obras de la carne se conocen bien: inmoralidad sexual, impureza y libertinaje; idolatría y hechicería; odio, discordia, celos, arrebatos de ira, rivalidades, desacuerdos, sectarismos y envidia; borracheras, orgías y otras cosas parecidas. Les advierto ahora, como antes lo hice, que los que practican tales cosas no heredarán el reino de Dios."
