Verse of the Week
16 “For we do not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.”
~ 2 Peter 1:16
1. Peter wants to make sure that we remember essential truths after he is gone.
2 Peter 1:12 – “So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have.”
2 Peter 1:13-14 – “I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body, because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.”
2 Peter 1:15 – “And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.”
Romans 15:14-15 – “I myself am convinced, my brothers and sisters, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with knowledge and competent to instruct one another. Yet I have written you quite boldly on some points to remind you of them again, because of the grace God gave me to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles.”
2. Peter’s testimony is reliable because he was an eyewitness of Christ’s majesty and power.
2 Peter 1:16 – “For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.”
2 Peter 1:17 – “He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.’”
2 Peter 1:18 – “We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.”
Matthew 17:1-3 – “After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.”
3. The prophecies in Scripture about Christ are also completely reliable.
2 Peter 1:19 – “We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.”
2 Peter 1:20 – “Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things.”
2 Peter 1: 21 – “For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17 – “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

16 “Cuando les dimos a conocer la venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo en todo su poder,
no estábamos siguiendo sutiles cuentos supersticiosos, sino dando testimonio de su grandeza que vimos con nuestros propios ojos.”
~ 2 Pedro 1:16
1. Pedro quiere asegurarse que recordemos las verdades esenciales cuando el se vaya.
2 Pedro 1:12 – “Por eso siempre les recordaré estas cosas, por más que las sepan y estén afianzados en la verdad que ahora tienen.”
2 Pedro 1:13-14 – “Considero que tengo la obligación de refrescarles la memoria mientras viva en esta habitación pasajera que es mi cuerpo; porque sé que dentro de poco tendré que abandonarlo, según me lo ha manifestado nuestro Señor Jesucristo.”
2 Pedro 1:15 – “También me esforzaré con empeño para que, aun después de mi partida, ustedes puedan recordar estas cosas en todo tiempo.”
Romanos 15:14-15 – “Hermanos míos, estoy seguro de que ustedes mismos rebosan de bondad, abundan en conocimiento y están capacitados para instruirse unos a otros. Sin embargo, les he escrito con mucha franqueza sobre algunos asuntos, como para refrescarles la memoria. Me he atrevido a hacerlo por causa de la gracia que Dios me dio.”
2. El testimonio de Pedro es confiable por ser testigo de la majestuosidad y el poder de Cristo.
2 Pedro 1:16 – “Cuando les dimos a conocer la venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo en todo su poder, no estábamos siguiendo sutiles cuentos supersticiosos, sino dando testimonio de su grandeza que vimos con nuestros propios ojos.”
2 Pedro 1:17 – “Él recibió honor y gloria de parte de Dios el Padre cuando desde la majestuosa gloria se le dirigió aquella voz que dijo: Este es mi Hijo amado; estoy muy complacido con él.”
2 Pedro 1:18 – “Nosotros mismos oímos esa voz que vino del cielo cuando estábamos con él en el monte santo.”
Mateo 17:1-3 – “Seis días después, Jesús tomó consigo a Pedro, a Santiago y a Juan, el hermano de Santiago, y los llevó aparte, a una montaña alta. Allí se transfiguró en presencia de ellos; su rostro resplandeció como el sol y su ropa se volvió blanca como la luz. En esto, se aparecieron Moisés y Elías conversando con Jesús.”
3. Las profecias en la Escritura acerca de Cristo son completamente confiables.
2 Pedro 1:19 – “Esto ha venido a confirmarnos la palabra de los profetas, a la cual ustedes hacen bien en prestar atención como a una lámpara que brilla en un lugar oscuro, hasta que amanezca el día y salga el lucero de la mañana en sus corazones.”
2 Pedro 1:20 – “Ante todo, tengan muy presente que ninguna profecía de la Escritura surge de la interpretación particular de nadie.”
2 Pedro 1: 21 – “Porque la profecía no ha tenido su origen en la voluntad humana, sino que los profetas hablaron de parte de Dios, impulsados por el Espíritu Santo.”
2 Timoteo 3:16-17 – “Toda la Escritura es inspirada por Dios y útil para enseñar, para reprender, para corregir y para instruir en la justicia, a fin de que el siervo de Dios esté enteramente capacitado para toda buena obra.”
